BIOGRAPHY
Kathryn has over nineteen years experience working as a psychologist in both the NHS and the private sector with clients experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties. After graduating from the University of Edinburgh in 1991 with an M.A. (Hons) degree in Psychology, she initially worked as a Research Assistant and latterly as a Research Fellow with Heriot-Watt University and Edinburgh University respectively, gaining experience in applied psychology and completing her MPhil in the field of occupational stress. Prior to clinical training Kathryn coordinated and ran a multicentre research study investigating quality of life for the World Health Organisation. In 2007, Kathryn graduated top of her class in Clinical Psychology on the University of Edinburgh Doctoral training course, winning the prestigious Birrell Prize. Kathryn was also awarded the Psige Research Prize 2008 for a paper based on her doctoral thesis on attitudes to mental health in later life. Since graduating Kathryn has spent the majority of her clinical career as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist working in both the NHS and private sector. She currently runs a successful private practice in Forth Psychological Services, and is committed to the provision of responsive and high quality psychological care for all of her clients.
CLINICAL PRACTICE
Kathryn works with adults and older adults with a wide range of psychological problems including anxiety, stress, depression, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma, relationship difficulties, anger, bereavement and loss, health-related difficulties including cancer and fear of cancer recurrence, palliative/end of life care, and memory problems as well as other psychological difficulties. Her clinical approach is largely integrative drawing upon different types of evidence-based therapy but particularly Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy and Schema Therapy. She is experienced in neuropsychological assessment for memory problems and dementia, and has delivered training and provided consultancy to health and social care professionals on the psychological care of older adults with multiple health, organic and psychological problems. Kathryn is author and co-author of several academic papers in the field of Clinical Psychology.
